Why Choose Dental Health and Aesthetics?

Every patient is different, therefore out Dental Hygienists at DHA provide each of our patients with a carefully tailored assessment of their risk factors for gum and dental disease. Using this we can then individualise a treatment plan that suits your mouth and your outcomes. We will show patients of all ages how to manage and maintain your oral health. We would touch on the following areas during your oral health advice sessions:

  • Toothbrushing
  • Interdental cleaning (flossing and interdental brushes)
  • Using mouthwash
  • Managing Halitosis (bad breath)
  • Fluoride advice to prevent decay
  • Family history discussion and management (genetics)
  • Dietary advice
  • Smoking Cessation
  • Reducing stain
  • Manage Sensitivity

We also provide more tailored treatment for gingivitis and advanced periodontal disease. This can be related to genetics or it could be other factors such as medical conditions or smoking. These conditions may include bleeding gums, sore gums, recession and mobility of teeth. It is not unusual to have a treatment plan that is site specific to treating areas of gum disease (periodontal disease), this is something that would be discussed at length with your dental hygienist.  This can be done using specific tools and under the use of local anaesthetics to limit any pain during the treatment (we can use this for routine hygiene appointments also if you are nervous or suffer with sensitivity). We also have the ability to refer on to a specialist of necessary.

Your hygienist appointment will begin with an initial oral hygiene assessment to check the overall health of your teeth and gums. This inspection helps the hygienist treatment plan and discuss a recall with the patient for future management .

This is then usually followed by ‘scaling’  using specific cleaning instruments where build ups of tartar (calculus), plaque and stain on the surface of the teeth and under the gums (if necessary) are carefully removed. Your hygienist will then give your teeth a thorough polish to remove superficial stains on the surface.

If there are signs of tooth decay, then the hygienist may need to apply a fluoride or antibacterial gel and a referral to your dental care professional at DHA may be necessary for a check-up and possible treatment.

Don’t worry if you are a nervous patient. You are in control and our dental care professionals have many years of experience in managing nervous patients.

Periodontal (gum) disease – from £60 per session (sessions are a minimum of 30 mins and you may require more than one session)

There are many reasons we can become vulnerable to gum disease and certain things will more greatly influence and determine the extent and speed of its progression, such as medical background, social background, family history or poor oral hygiene. Gum disease falls into two main categories, Gingivitis and Periodontitis.

Involves the bleeding and swelling of your gums. In its early stages, it is totally reversible with regular maintenance and a good oral hygiene routine, however, if it’s persistent and left un-treated it can turn into Periodontitis.

Periodontitis is an infection of the tissues surrounding your teeth, including ligaments and bone. Any damage to these tissues is permanent and can eventually result in the loss of teeth.

Our dental care professionals can assess your oral health using a comprehensive screening process which allows them to determine and recommend the most appropriate and effective treatment plan.

Note: We strongly recommended you try to see a dentist regularly, we can also refer for specialist treatment if necessary.

Please note that if local anaesthetic or radiographs are required, additional fees may be chargeable. If a full assessment is required, a fee will be discussed with you by the dental care professional, depending on the treatment requested initially
